Introduction
Talking to the Church about the importance of unity is kinda like talking to a person with no legs about the importance of good arch support in your shoes, just doesn’t make much sense. A quick Google search says there are “between 45,000- 47,000” Christian denominations worldwide. Church hopping and shopping isn’t just a thing, it’s often promoted as a virtue. Most people, myself included, will be a member of a number of different faith communities during their lifetime, and not just because they moved. Then there are the one-on-one relationships with other believers that can offer more drama than Love Island. Sure the worst of things often gets held up as an example of the whole, but where there’s smoke, there’s often smoldering resentment.
All that’s to say, reading Paul’s words in Ephesians 4 may seem like an exercise in futility. Unity being something that all the King’s horses and all the King’s theologians just make worse. So what are we gonna do? Give up? Ignore it? Let’s see if we can’t find a better way.

Lord’s Prayer
Christ, who taught us to pray saying:
Our Father who is in heaven, hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done,
