Introduction

This summer will mark 250 years since the founding of the United States of America. You would think this would be a widely embraced reason for celebration for Americans. Yeah… not in the world we’re living in right now. In fact, it has generated a great deal of contention primarily around who gets to tell the story of just what America means and what, exactly, that story is. You see, we all live by story. The stories we tell ourselves, each other and the stories told about us define us. This is just as true with the Church. This coming Sunday is Pentecost Sunday and we’re going to tell a story about our own founding, not 250 years ago, but about 2000 years ago. Y’all, it’s a banger, so come ready to celebrate.

Grace and peace y’all,

John Ray and the teaching team

Text:

Acts 2

Lord’s Prayer

Christ, who taught us to pray saying:

Our Father who is in heaven, hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread and forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who’ve sinned against us.
Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.
For yours is the kingdom, and the power,
and the glory forever. Amen.
