By November 28, 2025No Comments3 min read

NOTE: This Sunday we will be meeting at the Perch to do some painting and put together blessing bags with cards as well. Painting starts at 2:30pm – 6:30pm and the Blessing Bags will start at 4:30pm – 6:30pm, with a small devotional before we start. As we work together we’ll throw up something to watch and we’ll have pizza for dinner. Wear comfy work clothes!

Introduction

Friends,
There are so many ways we as Jesus followers are called to live differently. Even the calendar we live by is different. As Christians we set our clocks and calendars to different standards, one that can often put us in conflict with the way the world expects us to live. The world demands 24/7 work, Sabbath calls us to regular rest. The world wants ever increasing productivity, creation calls us to seasonality, the world requires conformity, God makes each of us unique. The world bases all our relationships on transaction, following Jesus invites us to love one another sacrificially.
So….Happy New Year! If this feels a little premature, remember, the liturgical year starts with Advent, not January 1. We also start with waiting, not with resolutions. We start with receiving, not with requirements, we start with putting our hope in what will be accomplished for us, not what we can accomplish ourselves.
This week we start our practice of observing Advent with serving others. This feels a really appropriate way to start a season the world makes all about what we want.
Excited to see y’all Sunday!

A Confession from John 15 (the message)

Reader: Jesus declared he is the Real Vine and his Father is the Farmer, that every branch that is grape-bearing he prunes back so it will bear even more. That if we live in him -make our home in him just as He does in us, the harvest is sure to be abundant.

Everyone: Jesus we make our home in you and you make yours in us. Make this Church good soil for the Vine to take root and the branches to bear fruit.

Reader: Jesus told us the tree will be judged by the fruit.

Everyone: Give us hands to tend the soil, hearts to endure the pruning and ears to hear the song that gives us hope.

Lord’s Prayer

Christ, who taught us to pray saying:

Our Father who is in heaven, hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread and forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who’ve sinned against us.
Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.
For yours is the kingdom, and the power,
and the glory forever. Amen.
