Introduction
The stunned look on our friends face was something we’ve become accustomed to over the years. No matter how many pictures or videos a person sees, no matter how much information they have read or stories they’ve been told, when they step out of the van on that first morning of a house build with Olivia’s Basket, it seems impossible to them that a house will be finished by the end of the next day. All they see is a smooth slab of cement, a huge pile of lumber and shingles and supplies. How? How in the world is this going to happen?
But if the person can put aside their doubts and uncertainties and trust the builders on site, listen to them and do what they say, not only will the house get built, but they will also know it in a way no words or stories or videos could teach them. They will have experienced it and have an experiential knowledge of it. They will know it in their bodies and bones, not just their brain.
Maybe this is something Paul is inviting the Galatian followers of Jesus to understand, the experiential knowledge of what it means to “live by the Spirit”, something that has to be embodied to truly know. Let’s dig in this week and see what it might say to us.
